“Do You Know of a Place…?”

“Do You Know of a Place…?”

Tennis_Racket_and_BallsI had an amazing conversation with a woman on my tennis team this morning whom I don’t know well. Dawn approached me and asked me if I would drive her to our tennis match in Ramona. I was driving with her in my car when the topic turned amazing. In the course of getting to know each other, we shared about our families and our passions. Dawn was telling me how her kids (now high school and college) were in the youth program at RBCPC in middle school, but then lost steam and interest as they aged out. We talked about how the church at large is losing members. She said RBCPC is a special place…it seems to be more than a church.By this point, we had arrived and continued to chat on the tennis courts. I started to tell her about missional work and how we were trying to understand how to be on mission with God in the community, especially to connect with the next generation by coming alongside and being with others who have a calling to make a difference. …then Dawn says to me without any prompting:

“I think some of that is already happening in our community!  Do you know of a place called PoVa?  My 17 year old son went out there to volunteer with his sister one Saturday and he has been back every Saturday since!  We all want those connections to be involved and not just to write a check to support something.   I see a nurturing side of my son that I have not seen before.  One of the students, Olivia, just loves him!
I just about dropped my tennis racquet and gave her a hug.  What an amazing confirmation that God is at work in ways that we have no idea about. God is truly amazing!

Here is a follow-up from Dawn after visiting PoVa with Shauna.
Shauna is a wife, mother, physician and community leader who has been transformed by the Cascade experience. She is awed and humbled that God has led her to this place where she can live out her devotion to Christ by loving her community to life.
